What is Climb JT?

Climb JT is a booking and reservation platform for professional guides of all types (not just rock climbing guides!) in Joshua Tree National Park.

We work with guides of all types who are safety-oriented, want to provide excellent experiences and services for their guests, and are professionals in their industry.

Why work with Climb JT?

Climb JT embraces the Independent Contractor-nature of rock climbing guiding in Joshua Tree National Park.  Climb JT is here to help EMPOWER YOU on your journey towards running your own sole-proprietor business.

We will help you create your own webpage, which sells YOU- the guide!  You can take your guests on trips for rock climbing, rappelling, hiking, scrambling, star-gazing, eco-tours, native-people's tours, off-road driving tours, yoga, camping, backpacking- or anything else you can dream up!

What Do I Get?

Climb JT will do all the legwork to make you a fully-insured and fully-permitted rock climbing guide (or other kind of guide!) in Joshua Tree National Park.  Climb JT will also market and advertize you and get reservations for you!

You'll be paid the full rates that you determine and list on your webpage, minus the Climb JT booking fee.  This booking fee covers all of your expenses, and Climb JT's expenses, including but not limited to:

  • Your permit to operate inside Joshua Tree National Park (Commercial Use Authorization permit)
  • Your guide card with Joshua Tree National Park
  • Your webpage (including photos, video, and online reviews)
  • Liability insurance for up to $2,000,000* (*this is the current insurance required by Joshua Tree National Park, subject to change by Joshua Tree National Park).
  • Marketing fees
  • Payment and Credit Card fees
  • Admin/Support

All you have to do is guide the trip!

What Is Required of Me?

As a Climb JT guide, you are required to maintain your own certifications.  You are also required to maintain your current availability through our calendar system.  It is imperative that you are on-top of updating your availability in your personal calendar so that there are no scheduling issues, either with your guests, or with your personal schedule!  And, as an Independent Contractor, you are required to have your own equipment for yourself, as well as your own equipment for your guests.  Some equipment is available for you to rent from Climb JT, if you do not have enough of your own.

What Do I Get Paid?

You will be paid the full amount that you have listed as your rates on your personal webpage, minus Climb JT fees.  Current Climb JT booking fees are 45% of total trip cost.  If you rent rock climbing equipment from Climb JT to outfit your clients (rock climbing shoes, harnesses and helmets), an additional fee of 10% is charged.  You will also be charged a $125 start-up fee, which covers your guide card with the National Park, webpage build out with photos, video and online reviews, and a 1-day in-house training and assessment with Climb JT management.  The start-up fee will be deducted from your first paycheck, and is not paid up-front.
